 | Alan Edwards graduated with bachelor and masters degrees in geology from the University of Oregon in the United States. He received his masters degree in 1973.
His professional experience consists of 30 years of work as an exploration geologist and manager of international exploration projects in Egypt, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and as the manager of production and exploration geology at Freeport?s Grasberg mine in Indonesia. Mr. Edwards began his geological career in 1973 when he began working for Texasgulf. He continued working for them until April, 1985 when he accepted employment from Freeport McMoRan. His work for Texasgulf included exploration for sulphur, potash, phosphate, copper, gold, lead and zinc,and coal deposits in the United States and in Argentina. This work was successful in adding reserves to Texasgulf?s reserve base. His work for Freeport included exploration for sulphur and copper in the United States and abroad until his retirement in Oct., 2000. Mr. Edwards designed and implemented an offshore geophysical and geochemical survey method that contributed to the discovery of the Main Pass offshore sulphur deposit in the Gulf of Mexico. After the offshore work, he was the general manager of Freeport?s Cairo, Egypt office while the company was delineating a frasch sulphur deposit in the Sinai and conducting exploration for sulphur in the Gulf of Suez. Both programs were successful and added reserves. Subsequent assignments included exploration for massive sulfide deposits in Spain and porphyry copper exploration in Mexico before becoming the manager of the geology department at the Grasberg mine. The Spanish work involved re-interpreting geophysical and drilling data and resulted in new discoveries in the Pyrite Belt. His work at Grasberg involved supervising a large staff of geologists and support personnel engaged in production geology, grade control, and exploration on the company?s mine concession. This effort was successful and for several years additional reserves to the Grasberg district were added faster than the mining consumed them. More recently he has worked for Crescent Technology, Inc, the outsourced engineering group for Freeport McMoRan and for VANE minerals. |
